Do you have many regrets? I want to hear ‘em all. Finally my new ceramic series is finished and ready to show. Can you guess the theme? The pieces are on display in the CLAY WORK exhibition at @peckhamlevels, which opens tomorrow night. Don’t let not attending the CLAY WORK private view be another regret!

CLAY WORK exhibition
• Private view: Wed 28 Sep, 6-9pm
• At @peckhamlevels Auditorium
• 28 Sep - 4 Oct 2022 10am - 6pm

CLAY WORK is a group show of ceramic artists and makers, whose practice is supported by working in a communal ceramic studio. The exhibition shows the different uses of clay as a material from sculpture to installation to functional tableware. The artists presented by CLAY WORK have come to ceramics from diverse backgrounds and starting points. Through working together in a studio space, they are united and shaped by the ideas, skills and techniques that are continually exchanged and shared. Curated by @ellieosborneart and supported by @thekilnrooms
I’m excited to be part of this ceramics group show! Featuring bold and imaginative works in clay, by an eclectic group of potters, it will open your eyes to the range and depth of possibilities that ceramics has to offer.

The exhibit opens next Wednesday and runs for a week. Come join me at the Private View celebrations on 28 Sep between 6-9pm! The more the merrier 🥳

My fellow exhibitors and I have been brought together by the work exchange programme at @thekilnrooms. We all create such different work, and it’s hugely refreshing and inspiring for me to be around such a rich mix of makers.

Massive thanks to Ellie @ellieosborneart for organising and curating this exhibition. Her own sculpture features clay beavers and twigs and is 👌🏻

Reposted from @ellieosborneart; Really excited to announce CLAY WORK exhibition that I have been working on for the last few months with my work exchange teammates @thekilnrooms.

Drawing 🌗 Thinking -
I’ve been tracing shapes of my little ‘uns and thinking about which to size up. While drawing out a shape, I feel like it’s being physically constructed afresh, and this unlocks another piece of knowledge about the pot. I’ll often draw pots when I’m unsure of how to name, glaze or trim them, or what their deal is exactly (Ceramicist: who is she?! The big kiln: the sketchbook will tell you).
I also draw pots when I don’t know what new pieces to make, or when I feel like husk with nothing to give. The act of drawing pots has been a compass for as long as I remember.

This little porcelain pot wishes you an auspicious spring season 🌸 I love this strange oddity - with the slip spikes and blue sash, the incredible high shine of the glaze, and the delicate porcelain fringe on the foot, it always looked like a royal egg to me 🥚👑 Then one of my studio mates told me it always looked like a precious butt plug to him. So. The sublime beauty of art lies in the many interpretations and human stories that a piece can bring to life 😬 #ceramics #pottery #porcelain #sakura #royalegg #buttpluglife
#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 9 (&7) So, less glam side: I could say when I’m up to my elbows in sulphurous slip, or sporting an industrial dust mask to avoid inhaling silica, or fully wearing three jumpers against the cold, fam. But really my least glamourous moments are when I’m racing to the studio, my face in someone’s armpit during rush hour. The worst moment was when I fell over in a train toilet while trying to change into studio clothes so I wouldn’t be late for an evening class. The class was good though; here are some of my notes on how to throw a spout off the hump. Which brings me neatly to...
Part-time or full-time: part-time potter, full-time juggler 🤹‍♀️ I love my studio practice but I also love my job, both bring things I couldn’t live without (a salary, lawl!). I’m fortunate that my day-job at the wonderful Institute of Making, though extremely busy at times, is also bursting with creative people and making and materials which inspire my ceramics. #ceramics #clay #throwing #hump #drawing
Yeeek it’s only two days away! Open Studios at @thearchespeckham; here we come! Come see my new shapes, fresh glazes on waggly pot critters in delicate magical porcelain. ~~~~

It’s glazing time! This is how everyone makes their glazing decisions, right? 😬 #LoFi #visualdecisionmaking #basicbitch #ceramics
News report: there’s a bit of spring in the air today, and blue slip pot and hellebore make friends again. #ceramics #spring #blue #hellebore
‘The dudes’. They skulk around dead-ends and hang out in playgrounds at night. They’re slouchy and monosyllabic. But kinda just shy underneath that hard slip and glaze exterior. Ah teenage years.
I wonder how often they wash.

Pots are excitedly congregating and zines with stories about pots are in production. Just one more sleep until this lot gets to flaunt itself at @thearchespeckham. Really looking forward to it 😆 thanks @beastlyworlds for the beautiful comic and thanks @rom1london for helping to lasercut the zine and contributing a little game of peek-a-boo to the covers 🙈

This caterpillar critter emerged from the big kiln recently 🐛 Such a pleasing glaze combo of mossy and lime greens, smokey light blue and deep indigo, mmmm. The background is a photo of azurite, a copper mineral.
Glaze application is a very... precise... method of pouring and splashing Owen’s Blue, Speckled Blue Grey and French Green (stoneware). So far so good 💙😬💚
